Having graduated quite a few students by now, its about time to have a platform to keep in touch and up to date on what everyone is up to. The AISM Alumni network serves to build a global community for the purposes of learning, self-improvement and career-enhancement. The network can be used in its basic form to look up individual alumni profiles, or can be used for more targeted searches to find alumni in specific locations, universities or professions in order to get some valuable advice, leads or even internship and job offers.
The network serves both current university students as well as working professionals. Here are just some examples of how the alumni network can be put to good use by getting in touch with someone:
- Thinking of moving to a new country or city? Search the network by location and then contact alumni living in the area to get an idea of what it's like (e.g., entertainment, living expenses) and get introduced to new people quickly
- Not sure which university to go to? Search the network by past education and then get in touch with alumni of the universities you have in mind for an insider's perspective (e.g., quality of education, cost)
- Hesitating on career paths? Search the network by profession and speak to alumni working in relevant industries to get some insights
- Looking for an internship or job? Search the network by location and profession to speak to alumni in your field of interest to obtain potential leads or even internships and job offers
- Are you a working professional or entrepreneur? Use the network to find synergies with other alumni (e.g., exchange ideas, gather useful data, recruit workers, find suppliers, buyers and investors) or provide support to other alumni (e.g., become a career role model, mentor a student, provide an internship, fundraise or donate)
The AISM Alumni Network will host events throughout the year to help connect alumni. Events will initially be held in Maputo, given the significant concentration of alumni in Mozambique combined with local support from AISM and a locally-based management team. However, the vision is to eventually have alumni abroad forming chapters and organising their own events as the online platform helps bring people together wherever they may be located.
Over time the network can only grow in numbers and strength, make sure to make use of the platform to elevate yourself and the others. There's an African proverb that goes as follows: If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together!
